About the course
Through Cavalli College’s blended study modes of learning, including online access, face-to-face and practice-based classroom teaching experiences, along with our unique student support, you will:
- Support autonomy, resilience, and hope in those with mental health and addiction issues.
- Work collaboratively and apply effective communication strategies to manage impacts of stigma and discrimination.
- Apply knowledge of the history and context of Māori as tangata whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi to support cultural connectedness in a health and wellbeing setting.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, reflective practice, and personal leadership.
- Find employment in a support role such as a mental health and addiction support worker, addiction programme facilitator, caregiver, or residential support worker.
- Become a skilled communicator enabling you to create authentic relationships with the people, families, and community you serve.
Entry requirements
- Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old to commence the programme.
- Applicants are required to have initial checks to ensure they are fit and proper to provide support, specific to the context in which they work.
- All domestic applicants for whom English is an additional language and te reo Māori is not the first language must provide evidence of meeting English language requirements according to Rule 22 of the NZQA Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2025 for a level 4 programme.
