About the Course This two-day workshop provides an environment for you to explore the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications in a non-confrontational, participatory process.
This learning framework enables you to understand the historical context of the Treaty as well as the contemporary debate.
This short course is part of the Certificate in Bicultural Competency.
Learning Outcomes On completion of this workshop, you will be able to: Describe the historical context that led to the development of the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi.
Discuss the relationship between the articles and principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi.
Identify and discuss legislation from New Zealand’s colonial history that were not in keeping with the promises guaranteed in Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi.
Discuss the contemporary effects of colonisation on Iwi Māori in own region.
When you enrol, you are expected to complete all the assessment tasks for this course.
Dates and Location This course is offered online / distance learning on 08-09 July 2026, across two days, 9.00am - 3.00pm.
You must attend both days and pass the assessment tasks to complete the course requirements.
We are also offering the same course, on-campus at Otago Polytechnic for OP Kaimahi / staff only, 15-16 July.
