About the course
Pathway from your level 3 Hairdressing qualification to become a qualified hairdresser! This programme is for people with prior knowledge of hairstyling, colouring tasks and basic hair cutting techniques, who wish to develop skills and knowledge to become a professional hairstylist. On successful completion, you'll have the knowledge, skills, and attributes to provide integrated fashion services as a professional hairstylist capable of operating under broad guidance.
What you will learn
Learn about client consultation, diagnosis, care and advice. Complete cutting, styling, colouring, colour correction, and chemical reformation and learn how to manage multiple integrated client hairdressing services.
Gain safe and professional practice skills working at our training salon, Te Whare Makawe where you can perform fashion services to meet client requirements.

Entry requirements
Domestic
To be admitted to this programme, applicants must hold one of the following:
- New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 3)
OR
- an equivalent qualification, which may require a practical skills assessment
International
International applicants are required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 (general or academic) with no individual band lower than 5 from one test taken in the preceding two years, or an equivalent.
English language
All applicants (international and domestic) for whom English or te reo Māori is not a first language need to provide evidence that they have the necessary English language proficiency required for the programme.
