Ko Te Ha o Te Reo (Introductory Māori)

About the course

This course is a great for beginners who want an introduction to Te Reo Māori. Our fantastic tutors will help you feel comfortable in the classroom and teach you basic phrases, correct Te Reo pronunciation and an introduction to the basics of Māori culture.

If you’re new to Te Reo Māori or want to go back to the basics then this course is for you. Whether your keen to get involved for personal or professional reasons, this course will give you a firm foundation in Te Reo Māori and can act as the first step on your language journey.

All students are welcomed into a fun, safe and comfortable environment where their confidence and love for Te Reo Māori can grow.

The course will offer you 72 hours of face-to-face learning between 5 pm and 8 pm over the duration of the semester allowing you to attend course outside of work hours.

You will learn:

  • Knowledge of vowels and correct pronunciation of Te Reo Māori through games and songs.
  • how to introduce yourself
  • your pepeha (a traditional introduction of yourself and where you come from)
  • to confidently meet and greet others in Te Reo Māori
  • basic knowledge of Tikanga Māori (traditions and customs)
