Do you have an intermediate level understanding and ability in the use of Te Reo? This course is intended for those who have a desire to contribute positively to the development of te reo kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori, or have a personal and/or professional interest in te reo Māori.
Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to communicate in te reo with some independence and confidence in:
- everyday whānau life
- on marae
- in social/community, work place and/or academic contexts
- in Māori environments where they feel comfortable
What you will learn
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- use te reo vocabulary and grammatical structure sat an intermediate level as an expression of mana tangata;
- use te reo Māori at an intermediate level to show an understanding of their connections to the land and the environment,prominent places, people, histories and stories, as an expression of mana whenua;
- use te reo at an intermediate level in selected contexts to develop a growing knowledge base of, and an emerging respect for te reo, as an expression of mana reo;
- use te reo Māori at an intermediate level to achieve tasks and guide others in specified contexts as an expression of mana ao tūroa.
This course has a blended learning style incorporating face-to-face and online giving you flexibility to learn around your commitments. All face-to-face classes are held between 5-9 pm outside of work hours.
Entry requirements
All applicants must:
- Be at least 16 years old at the time of enrolment into the programme;
- Demonstrate an introductory competence in Te Reo Māori; and
- Reasonably expect to achieve the standards required for successful completion of the programme.
