New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo Māori (Reo Rua) (Level 2)

About the course

If you’re just starting out on your Te Reo Māori journey, then this is for you!

This course is ideal for people wanting to learn basic Te Reo Māori skills. The course builds on the knowledge gained from Ko Te Ha o Te Reo (Introductory Māori). However, you do not have to have completed the course to apply.

The tutors will cover greetings, numbers and basic words in Te Reo to help you slowly build your vocabulary. The programme contains an introduction to Te Reo, ko ahau tēnei, literacy and numeracy.

What you will learn:

  • basic conversational Te Reo
  • mihi (traditional speech of acknowledgement and/or thanks)
  • pepeha (traditional introduction of yourself and where you come from)
  • karakia (traditional chants, prayer, ritual language fora verity of contexts)
  • waiata (songs)

This course has a blended learning style incorporating face-to-face and online giving you flexibility to learn around your commitments. All face-to-face classes are held between 5-9 pm outside of work hours.

Courses in this programme

  • Mana Tangata: Learn to use te reo Māori at a foundation level as an expression of Mana Tangata.
  • Mana Whenua: Learn to use foundation level reo Māori to voice connections to the land and the environment, prominent places and people of the area, as an expression of Mana Whenua.
  • Mana Reo: Apply foundation level reo Māori in context and develop an emerging respect for te reo as an expression of Mana Reo.
  • Mana Ao Tūroa: Use foundation level te reo Māori to achieve tasks as an expression of Mana Ao Tūroa.
