New Zealand Certificate in Travel (Level 4)

About the course

This programme follows on from the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism (Level 3) and is the second of two qualifications which should be studied consecutively over 12 months. On this programme you will learn how to put into practice the skills and knowledge acquired on the level 3 certificate. Where possible you will be placed into a travel, tourism or hospitality workplace for work experience.

The Travel and Tourism Programme at NorthTec offers two qualifications in 12 months:

  • After 6 months of study: New Zealand Certificate in Tourism (Level 3) – awarded by International Travel College (ITC)
  • After 12 months of study: New Zealand Certificate in Travel (Level 4) – awarded by NorthTec | Te Pūkenga

What you will learn

You will learn about:

  • International Air Travel
  • Computer Reservation Systems
  • Online Fares and Ticketing Systems
  • Coaches and Overland Tours
  • Cruise Ships (includes Cruise Ship Diploma)
  • Travel Industry Legislation.

Additionally, students study advanced selling techniques with an industry focus and build a grounding in the cruise ship industry, providing them with up-to-date product knowledge about this fast growing and exciting segment of the inbound tourist market.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • Deliver customer service, product advice, and sales in a travel industry context, applying accurate communication, literacy, numeracy and problem solving skills, to grow and maintain customer relationships.
  • Apply workplace practices required of the travel industry including: self-management, teamwork, and compliance with relevant Acts and legislation.
  • Apply detailed knowledge of specific travel regions, and a broad operational knowledge of world geography in terms of characteristics relevant to customer’s needs.
  • Identify and utilise travel business operational systems and processes that enable the delivery of a quality customer experience and contribute to overall business effectiveness.
