About the programme
Arai Te Uru Kōkiri Centre and Otago Polytechnic have developed this programme to train whānau to understand how to support each other and to uplift, listen to and help each other be successful.
This programme is for those who wish to work with Māori and whānau in the development of a whānau-centred approach which supports whānau wellbeing.
Located in Ōtepoti Dunedin, New Zealand Kōkiri offers practical/vocational courses which equip foundation learners with the opportunity to learn skills in preparation for higher education or as a gateway into the workforce. Find out more.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to apply knowledge of Māori philosophies and theories of Māori wellbeing. This qualification will prepare you for entry-level work caring for or supporting people, from youth to adulthood.

Entry requirements
- You must be 18 years old or more when this programme starts.
- NCEA Level 2 Literary or equivalent i.e. Koru Step Four on the LNAATs measure.
- Must be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Applicants who do not have English as a first language, must provide evidence of functional, daily living and general literacy.
- All applicants will be interviewed by the kaiako.
