About the course
The primary aim of the Bachelor of Health and Social Development is to provide New Zealand with beginning practitioners in health and social development who:
1. Integrate health and social development theories and knowledge into practice
2. Are skilled and safe in working with a range of consumers in a variety of settings
3. Demonstrate skills in advocacy and facilitation when working with individuals, groups, and communities
4. Demonstrate an understanding of human rights and social justice and how these contribute to practice
5. Contribute to creating positive outcomes in health and social well being in New Zealand
6. Work collaboratively and promote interdisciplinary ways of working
7. Are committed to and aware of the importance of maintaining professional currency
8. Maintain culturally appropriate practice and ethical standards in the workplace
Entry requirements
To be admitted to this programme, applicants must also meet the requirements set out in this schedule a. Have at least 12 NCEA credits at level 3 in each of English, Mathematics and one Science subject; or b. Successful completion of the Massey University (delivered under licence by Unitec) Certificate of University Preparation or equivalent; c. Applicants from a non-English speaking background must have an overall IELTS (Academic) score of at least 6.5, with no band score lower than 6.0, or a TOEFL score of 575, or equivalent. d. Have completed a Bachelor of Health and Social Development self disclosure form.
Selection Criteria When the number of eligible applicants for admission exceeds the number of places available, the following selection criteria will be applied a. Demonstrate academic achievement in excess of the admission requirements
b. Have work, or other experience, relevant to the courses in the degree
c. Applicants will have a history appropriate to a career working with people. Past criminal convictions may be, but are not necessarily, a factor in determining suitability for admission to the programme.
