About the course
This course can be counted towards credits in participating Universities for students wanting to further their studies.
The aim of the programme is to build a solid theoretical knowledge and applicable skills in financial services in those individuals who are employed in various financial roles or those learners who plan to have careers providing financial services to customers.
Learners will be able to advance to specialist roles and/or enhance their skills and knowledge within retail and personal services areas of the financial services industry.
Graduates will be capable of providing individualised financial advice to meet clients’ personal needs in roles in Residential Property Lending.
On completion of this programme, learners will be able to progress onto higher level qualifications in business and management such as a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Applied Management.
The course runs for 20 weeks.
Compulsory modules include:
Module 1: Financial Services Sector (15 credits)
Module 2: Financial Regulatory Framework and Professional Conduct (20 credits)
Strand related module:
Module 3: Residential Property Lending Strand (30 credits)
Graduates of the Residential Property Lending strand will also be able to:
- Apply relevant legislations and codes of conduct when providing residential property lending services
- Evaluate economic environment and events, the residential property market and other related factors that impact on residential property lending
- Evaluate the suitability of residential property lending products, structures and options in terms of their benefits, risks and limitations
- Analyse information to determine client residential property lending needs
- Apply knowledge of residential property lending products and services to develop solutions that meet client residential property lending needs
- Provide advice in a residential property lending context using the Six Step Process.
Study Pathways:
- Continue with Bachelor of Commerce Degree with the University of Canterbury (UC). The University of Canterbury (UC) will offer between 30 – 60 points of advanced standing into its Bachelor of Commerce programme (BCom degree) to students who have successfully completed, but not yet graduated with, the New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services Level 5 programme.
Entry requirements
- Applicants must:
Be over 16 years of age - Have a minimum of eight NCEA Level 2 credits in English. This includes four in writing and four in reading or be able to demonstrate the equivalent knowledge or skills.
- English language requirements for international learners:
- Have an IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0, or equivalent.
