About the course

Graduates will be able to analyse the personal training industry and the environments in which trainers operate; analyse the personality traits, knowledge and skills exhibited by personal trainers that influence the success of their business; develop, implement, evaluate and adapt exercise programmes for a wide range of client groups including weight management, posture and core stability, sport performance, physical recondition and special populations; apply appropriate instructor motivational, exercise adherence and intervention strategies; demonstrate client-practitioner relationship , use professional protocols within a simulated and/or workplace setting; describe basic business, marketing and management principles; comprehensive first aid and injury prevention and management. Graduates may pathway into the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science Graduates of this diploma will have the knowledge and skills to take up occupations as a personal trainer in a variety of environments within the health and fitness industry and related sectors. Graduates will also be eligible to apply to the New Zealand Registration for Exercise Professionals (REPs) to work in the health and fitness industry (both within New Zealand and Internationally) as an Exercise Consultant Level 2 and/or Personal Trainer.

Entry requirements

Cert Fitness Industry Training L4 or equiv qual or experience & 12 crs maths/Pangaru NCEA L1 & 4 crs in reading & 4 credits in writing English or Te Reo L2. 20yrs demonstrate success likelihood. Internationals. IELTS Score of 6.0 with 5.5 in written band.
