Learn new skills and experience of what it's like to work in the exciting world of barbering with the UCOL Te Pūkenga New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Barbering Level 4 programme.
A day in the life of a barber involves helping clients look and feel good by providing personal hair cutting and grooming services.
To make your start with a rewarding career in Barbering, study the UCOL Te Pūkenga New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Barbering Level 4 programme.
You'll gain the skills and knowledge to be a qualified barber who can work independently as a standalone operator in a commercial environment. You will be capable of contributing to barber shop operations offering a range of barbering services to clients.
This qualification is intended for learners who have little or no prior learning or experience in the field.
Practical experience
Regular client days are incorporated into the learning process at one of the UCOL Te Pūkenga Barber Salons in Palmerston North, Whanganui or Masterton, providing you with real industry experience, and honing your professionalism, relationship-building skills and teamwork.
Successful graduates of the UCOL Te Pūkenga New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Barbering programme will have a range of highly desirable employment skills for the industry, including:
- Apply underpinning barbering theory and practice to safely and professionally complete barbering cuts and services, and provide client consultation, care and advice as a commercial barber.
- Communicate with clients, peers, staff and suppliers as a commercial barber, in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Apply knowledge of health and safety requirements to contribute to commercial barber shop operations.
Employment options include working in an established barbershop and self-employment in own business.
