About the course
Are you already working in the Cranes industry?
Learn the fundamentals of slinging loads and working safety around cranes . Choose a strand to cover a specialist crane area to complete your programme. Available Strands: Cab-controlled Overhead Crane, Dogman, Pendant Controlled Overhead Crane, Self Erecting Tower Crane, Truck Loader Crane. This programme is designed to be completed in the workplace.
What you will Learn:
You will learn how to:
- Work safely in a variety of crane workplaces, complete a job safety analysis, identify hazards in the workplace, and put controls in place or escalate for further action.
- Identify and use load weights to sling regular loads using the appropriate lifting equipment.
- Apply knowledge of the Cranes Safety Manual to carry out pre-start and post checks of cranes or lifting equipment.
- In your specialist area you will then learn how to safely operate that type of crane.
- If you choose the Dogman strand you will learn about risk management, slinging calculations and industry recognised methods to direct and guide cranes during operations. This strand is a must if you want to progress to operating more specialist crane types in dynamic and variable workplaces.
How will you learn:
You’ll learn on the job in your workplace. You will also have an EarnLearn-Te Pūkenga registered assessor who will visit you to provide further training and assess you in the required outcomes.
Entry Requirements:
You must be in employment and working in a cranes related environment.
Career progression:
Complete one specialist area to complete the programme and gain the qualification. You can then choose to do another specialist crane type or progress to our level 4 programme to become an expert in more complex crane operations. To progress to level 4 you must first complete this level 3 programme with the strand in Dogman.
