About the course
Have you achieved your New Zealand Certificate in Scaffolding Trade (level 4) and now want to progress to the next level?
Build on your skills, knowledge and experience to effectively lead, plan, design, erect, dismantle and inspect complex scaffolding at an advanced level.
You will be able to work in an autonomous capacity and use the Worksafe Good Practice Guidelines relevant to the full range of techniques for undertaking advanced scaffolding activities to ensure all tasks are completed safely and to industry standards.
What you will learn
You will learn how to:
- Apply design principles in the design of complex scaffolding and manage the handling of advanced scaffolding components as specified in the Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995 and non-proprietary suspended scaffolding.
- Design, erect, dismantle, and inspect multi-faceted and complex scaffolding as specified in the Health and Safety in Employment Regulations and non-proprietary suspended scaffolding.
- Provide site-wide leadership for scaffolding, including the supervision of staff.
How will you be Learning?
You will be learning at your workplace and attending block courses at Te Pukenga’s Training Provider- Tai Poutini Polytechnic
Certificate of Competence
You will then be eligible to apply for the Scaffolding Certificate of Competence (Advanced).

Prerequisite to meet regulatory body or legislative requirements: A current workplace first aid certificate.
Career options
Certified scaffolder, advanced scaffolder, scaffolding supervisor, scaffolding site supervisor/operations manager involving planning and leading all scaffolding activities and carrying out all aspects of scaffolding work including using advanced techniques in the construction, event, and industrial sectors.
Educational pathways
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Scaffolding (Trade) (Level 4).
This qualification is the highest-level qualification in the New Zealand scaffolding qualification pathway. Further educational pathways may include higher-level project or business management qualifications.
