Course details

New Zealand Certificate in Drainlaying (Level 4)
NZQF Level 4

About the course

At the successful completion of this programme you will achieve the New Zealand Certificate in Drainlaying. You will be then eligible to become registered Licenced Drainlayer with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board.

The apprenticeship duration is 2+years and is completed as a mixture of on the job (Workplace) and Campus based (Block Course) training.

How the training works:

Your apprenticeship starts with an induction block course. After that, training is completed through a combination of workplace learning and block courses, depending on the training opportunities provided by your employer.

Theory learning is completed online with support from your employer or block course tutor. Practical evidence is gained through workplace tasks or block courses and submitted online as part of your programme.

This means you'll earn while you learn, building your skills on the job while working towards your qualification.

This course has a optional on-site wastewater strand, to recognise those apprentices who practically do this work in their workplace.

Entry requirements

Current employment in the appropriate trade plumbing gasfitting or drainlaying.
