About the course
This programme provides New Zealand with people who have attained general scaffolding skills and can work with simple scaffolding structures in areas such as the residential construction or maintenance sectors. Graduates will be eligible to apply for the Scaffolding Certificate of Competence (Elementary) as required under Health and Safety Regulations.
Graduates of this certificate will be able to:
- Apply safe working practices while working at heights in accordance with health and safety legislation and Good Practice Guidelines for Scaffolding in New Zealand.
- Calculate weights to sling regular loads using the appropriate lifting equipment.
- Lead a small team to complete simple or suspended scaffold works.
- Erect, alter and dismantle a simple scaffold structure in a variety of systems including tube and coupler.
- Apply knowledge of quantities and loading to design simple scaffold structures in a variety of systems including tube and coupler, to meet client requirements.
Entry requirements
- Be over 16 years of age
- Hold a current comprehensive first aid certificate before enrolment (unit standards 6400, 6401, 6402)
- Be in employment and engaging with work related to the scope of the programme. The employer and apprentice, in conjunction with Vertical Horizonz, must complete a training agreement
- Be physically fit and able to demonstrate physical competency for the skills being trained
- This program is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). Candidates must be New Zealand or Australian Citizens or Residents or working in New Zealand under a work visa.
