About the course
This Micro-Credential is targeted at those who have an interest in natural health.
The purpose of this Micro-Credential is to provide the health sector with people who can provide specialised knowledge in essential oil science.
To gain knowledge and skills of 80 different essential oils and 20 different carrier oils
Identify “at risk” aromatic medicine practice and recommend safe use.
Graduates will be capable of integrating practice and theory drawing on organic chemistry, essential oil science and applications of natural products working within industry safe practice.
Component learning outcomes
1. Understand specialised knowledge of essential oils and application skills for the benefit of self, whanu and community.
2. Analyse and formulate aromatherapy solutions based on the chemo-types of essential oils for various health conditions when formulating with self-managed client charts to improve the outcomes for themselves, whanu and community.
3. Attain knowledge of how essential oils are grown, produced and obtained both within New Zealand and Internationally.
4. Understand and apply safe practice of essential oils within their health practice, i.e. Beauty and Massage therapists, Midwives, Nurses and Healthcare workers.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be a
minimum of 16 years of age, have passed at least 60 credits at NCEA Level 2 in
one year or equivalent preferably including biology. Applicants must be able to communicate
competently in English. International
students or residents whose first language is neither English nor Maori must
have minimum overall IELTS score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5.0 or
equivalent evidence of suitability for the programme.
