About the course

This exciting course is about putting your business hat on and learning how to develop new food products or services for today’s market. Build on your Level 5 cooking or baking knowledge and learn the process of taking a foodie idea from concept through to reality, along with a range of core management skills. 

Learn invaluable business strategy skills and the latest food industry trends as you research, develop and design a new food product or service - pitching it, testing it and tweaking it to get it ready for market. The course includes a 20 week paid internship, where you’ll put your new business and management knowledge to the test in a real hospitality or food company.

This course is delivered by The Culinary Collective, New Zealand’s culinary school who are part of NZMA. 

Entry requirements

Domestic Students

  • Be a minimum of 18 years old. 
  • Have a New Zealand Diploma in Cookery Level 5, New Zealand Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 5 or an equivalent qualification; or have relevant and current industry experience. 
  • Pass a reading/writing test if required.

International Students

  • Be a minimum of 18 years old at the start of the course.
  • Have a New Zealand Diploma in Cookery Level 5, New Zealand Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 5 or an equivalent qualification; or have relevant and current industry experience. 
  • Have English language proficiency:  If English is your second language, you need an English level of 6 IELTS or equivalent with no band score lower than 5.5 (other English tests or evidence of your English language ability may be approved as advised by NZQA).
  • Have travel and medical insurance and a valid visa.
