Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Kaupae 3)
NZQF Level 3

About the course

Overview

*Subject to NZQA approval.

Further your understanding of tikanga.

Tikanga is a set of traditional practices or behaviours unique to specific situations. The idea comes from the Māori word ‘tika’ which means ‘right’ and encompasses the idea of doing what is right for the collective.

This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained in Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Mātauranga Māori) (Kaupae 2), however, it is not a prerequisite. Those with a general level of tikanga knowledge and basic Te Reo Māori skills are welcome to apply.

Our tutors welcome people from all cultures and backgrounds and provide a welcoming, safe and comfortable environment for all to learn in.

This course will give you the knowledge and skills to support and participate in the practice of tikanga. By the end of the course you will be able to apply knowledge fundamental to tikanga practice within a chosen field of work or study and across the community in general.

This course has a blended learning style incorporating face-to-face and online giving you flexibility to learn around your commitments.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • explain cultural concepts associated within a context where tikanga are practiced as an expression of mana ao tūroa;
  • use a range of reo structures and tikanga practices as an expression of mana reo;
  • apply factual knowledge of tikanga concepts to explain own relationship to the physical world as an expression of mana whenua;
  • work collaboratively with others to carry out a range of tikanga practices and concepts as an expression of mana tangata.
