This exciting programme is studio based at the Te Auaha campus.  You'll be introduced to all things art and design. come an experiment with physical art techniques including drawing, printmaking and photography. Learn how to combine physical with digital media to create work that is uniquely yours.

The New Zealand Certificate in Arts and Design (Level 3) comprises of 60 credits and is a 17 week programme. Students can study full-time or part-time but must complete the qualification within three years of the date of first enrolment.  

Areas covered in this programme includes: 

  • Foundations of design, composition, and beginner software skills
  • Application of basic typography conventions for design projects
  • An understanding of the cultural implications within design work
  • An exploration of a personal narrative and identity through mixed media animated sequences
  • Traditional two-dimensional arts practices including drawing, printmaking and photography
  • Physical aspects of three-dimensional model making. Prototyping and utilizing the principles of kit-bashing
  • Direct teaching of Adobe CC: Photoshop and InDesign

Entry requirements

NCEA Level 1 or equivalent.

English Language Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for international students is IELTS General or Academic Score of 5 with no band score lower than 5. IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form.

Related study options

Successful completion of the NZ Certificate in Arts and Design (Level 3), followed by the NZ Certificate in Arts and Design (Level 4) can lead you to apply for entry into the Diplomas in Arts and Design. The portfolio content completed during the programme can be used to support an application for further study or look for an entry level job in New Zealand’s fastest growing industry.

You can also complete this qualification 2 evenings per week (Tuesday & Thursday) at our Petone campus from 6-9pm from 27/2/2023-3/11/2023, there will also be the opportunity to attend 2 weekend workshops, dates to be confirmed at our Wellington campus.
