About the course
As a barbering apprentice you’ll be employed by a barbershop and be trained by a qualified employer or trainer in the shop. You’ll learn how to perform a range of barbering services, including: Trichology Cutting skills Wet shaving Blow drying Beard and moustache work You’ll gain first aid and customer service skills and learn the business skills required to run a professional barbershop. When you finish your apprenticeship, you’ll be fully qualified and achieve the New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Barbering (Level 4). You’ll also gain relevant, valuable work experience to include on your CV.

Completing an apprenticeship with HITO will ensure you work with real clients and be trained by qualified industry professionals. You’ll learn all the practical skills you need to succeed in your chosen profession and gain valuable experience to include in your CV.
To become a HITO hairdressing, barbering or beauty therapy apprentice, you must be fully employed in a salon, barbershop or clinic in New Zealand. Once you’re employed, you’re able to sign a training agreement with your employer and HITO.
HITO have Sales and Training Advisors across the country who will support your apprenticeship journey by visiting your workplace and providing you with training materials to support your learning and assessments.
