About the course

As a hairdressing apprentice you’ll be employed by a hairdressing business and be trained by a qualified employer or trainer in the salon. You’ll learn how to perform a range of hairdressing services, including: Cutting Colouring Perming and straightening Fashion skills Hair-up work Shampooing Blowdrying Setting You’ll learn customer service skills and the commercial skills required to run a professional hair salon. When you finish your apprenticeship, you’ll be fully qualified and achieve the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist) (Level 4). You’ll also gain relevant, valuable work experience to include on your CV.

Completing an apprenticeship with HITO will ensure you work with real clients and be trained by qualified industry professionals. You’ll learn all the practical skills you need to succeed in your chosen profession and gain valuable experience to include in your CV.

To become a HITO hairdressing, barbering or beauty therapy apprentice, you must be fully employed in a salon, barbershop or clinic in New Zealand. Once you’re employed, you’re able to sign a training agreement with your employer and HITO.

HITO have Sales and Training Advisors across the country who will support your apprenticeship journey by visiting your workplace and providing you with training materials to support your learning and assessments.
