The purpose of this qualification is to provide the beauty sector with people who have the skills and knowledge to provide a range of nail services.
Learners will benefit by having a qualification which recognises nail technology skills and knowledge to enable improved job performance and a credential to enhance employment opportunities.
The beauty sector and its clients will benefit by having nail technicians with the skills and knowledge to cometently provide a range of nail services.
This qualification is suitable for learners who have no prior learning or experience in nail technology and wish to attain a recognised level or competence and professional standards.
Graduates will be capable of working under broad guidance with a degree if self-management in a nail technology context.

You’ll learn all the practical skills you need to succeed in your chosen profession and gain valuable experience. The best part is you get paid to learn, as you’ll be paid a wage by your employer throughout the course of your apprenticeship.
To become a HITO hairdressing, barbering or beauty therapy apprentice, you must be fully employed in a salon, barbershop or clinic anywhere in New Zealand. Once you’re employed, you’re able to sign a training agreement with your employer and HITO.
HITO have Sales and Training Advisors across the country who will support your apprenticeship journey by visiting your workplace and providing you with training materials to support your learning and assessments.
Hairdressing, barbering, and beauty therapy apprentices
have many opportunities to progress into senior roles. The communication,
business and problem-solving skills they gain during their training prepare
them for a range of careers in and outside of the hair and beauty industries.
