About the course

The purpose of this free, introductory qualification is to provide passionate learners with the skills and knowledge required to work safely and effectively with horses in the commercial thoroughbred racing stable or stud farm.

Through the Certificate programme, learners will be educated on how to safely build trust and caring relationships with horses, while honouring the Animal Welfare criteria. Learners will gain confidence and grow comfortable working alongside and with Thoroughbred horses, owners, trainers, jockeys and stable hands at Byerley Park.

Programme Content:

Skills in a workplace
Care for and handle horses safely in and around an equine facility
Clean and safe working environment in an equine industry

Entry requirements

Must be 16 years or older.
Be a NZ citizen or Permanent Resident
Must have the physical capability to cope with the practical demands of the qualification.
Must partake in an interview with Skill NZ staff at Byerley Park to help ensure the entry requirements are met.
