About the course
This short programme is for support workers wanting to know how to safely and professionally lead youth development projects. Expected Outcomes The programme includes recognising and developing the following competencies in your staff:
The ability to create a safe environment for young people and themselves – defining a safe environment, what constitutes unwanted behaviour and undertaking supervision. The ability to demonstrate professional and ethical behaviour in youth work – defining strategies for managing conflict between their own attitudes and values and those of others, the application of relevant code and working professionally and ethically. Knowledge of how to undertake planning, implementing and evaluating a youth development project – examining common theories, models and learning how to lead a youth development project.
Prerequisites Learners must have completed the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community) (Level 4) with strands in Community Facilitation, Community Health Work, Mental Health and Addiction, or Social Services (delivered as Careerforce apprenticeship programmes). Enrolments will be accepted where an approved programme has been completed with another provider.
