About the course
This certificate will teach you how to educate adult learners at basic levels and provide you with a qualification that is well regarded by employers in the adult and tertiary teaching sector.
This qualification is suitable for individuals who engage in some adult and tertiary teaching or training. For instance, they may be delivering education or training in a workplace as part of their role, or in the community as a volunteer.
You will learn how to:
- Plan lessons to meet specified learning outcomes
- Use learner-centred teaching strategies that respect learner’s mana and diverse backgrounds
- Select and apply facilitation, teaching and learning strategies in familiar contexts, using resources and technologies to meet specific outcomes
- Use assessment and moderation processes
- Seek and respond to feedback from learners and other stakeholders to improve learner outcomes in candidate’s own context

Requires students to be in a classroom or teaching environment
People credited with this unit standard are able to critically evaluate own professional knowledge and practice, and plan and use strategies to improve it.
25779 Develop materials for open, flexible, and networked learning (OFNL) (10 Credits)
People credited with this unit standard are able to: plan development of materials for OFNL; develop materials for OFNL; and trial and review OFNL materials.
29690 Describe principles and theories of adult learning (6 Credits)
People credited with this unit standard are able to describe principles and theories of adult learning.
7091 Establish a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment for adults in New Zealand's cultural setting (4 Credits)
People credited with this unit standard are able to identify diverse cultural needs in a New Zealand learning environment, and establish a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment for adults.
