About the course

This programme is for graduates of the Level 4 programme who wish to gain an advanced understanding and ability in the use of Te Reo – kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori. At the end of the programme you will be able to communicate independently in te reo, express ideas in a wide range of familiar and some less familiar situations with fluency and flexibility. Play a part in shaping a positive social, political and economic future for Aotearoa New Zealand, a thorough understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga is essential, as special taonga, to be shared with all New Zealanders.

Programme Outline

Te Pōkairua Reo (Rumaki) | NZ Diploma in Te Reo Māori (Immersion) [Level 5] is designed to:

  • Provide intermediate skills in te reo and tikanga Māori
  • Develop academic writing and research skills taught at Level 4
  • Provide an option of Mātauranga Māori courses (listed below in subject areas)
  • As this programme is rumaki (immersion), te reo Māori is the main language of delivery

You must have completed the approved foundation programme, Te Tohu Tauihu [Kaupae 4] | NZ Certificate in Te Reo me Ngā Tikanga [Level 4] or have an equivalent qualification or life experience.

English Language Entry Requirements

An interview is part of the acceptance process to determine capability of understanding a third language.

Entry with Credit

You may already have some knowledge or skills (from other study or experience) that can be recognised as credit towards completing this programme. If credit is awarded, you may no longer be deemed a full-time student for allowances. Please enquire about this first before you enrol.
