About the course

If you are currently working or volunteering for an ambulance service and hold an Authority to Practice at a minimum of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level, this programme provides a pathway to develop the knowledge, skills and clinical capability required for paramedic practice and professional registration.

Programme outline

The Flexible Learning Strand (FLS) is designed for ambulance professionals who want to advance their careers while continuing to work.  You will need to apply for credit recognition to determine the appropriate entry point into the programme based on your existing qualifications and experience.

You can choose to study full-time or part-time, with up to six years to complete the degree. To ensure a strong foundation for learning, each year of the programme must be completed before progressing to the next.

Programme structure

Our programme combines academic study with practical application, allowing you to immediately apply new knowledge and skills in your workplace.   Learning includes:

  • Online course delivery for flexible study
  • Compulsory block courses featuring simulation-based learning
  • Practical experiences that connect theory to real-world paramedic practice

This blend of learning ensures you graduate with the confidence and competence required for contemporary paramedic practice.

Entry requirements

You will need to provide evidence of your New Zealand Diploma in Ambulance Practice (Level 5) and a Letter of Support from your ambulance service or employer.
