Programme outline
For nearly 40 years, Whitireia has been preparing highly regarded, work-ready nursing graduates. Choose from our three Nursing Council approved degree pathways:
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Bachelor of Nursing Māori
- Bachelor of Nursing Pacific
These three-year full-time programmes combine classroom learning, simulation-based education, and hands-on clinical experience in community and healthcare settings.
Successful completion of these programmes allows you to sit the Nursing Council of New Zealand State Final Examination. After passing the examination, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse.
Programme structure
Your learning will combine classroom teaching, online learning, self-directed study, simulation-based learning, and a range of clinical placements, giving you opportunities to apply your knowledge in real-world healthcare settings and develop the skills needed for professional practice. Learning is designed to connect what you learn in the classroom with real-world patient care, making it easier to apply new knowledge and skills in practice.
You will also attend practical sessions in our simulation suites, where you can develop and practice essential clinical skills in a safe, supportive environment.
Some classes and learning activities will be provided through Moodle, our online learning platform, so you will need access to a computer and reliable internet at home.
Because of the clinical and academic demands of the programme, it is important to carefully consider any paid employment commitments. We recommend working no more than 10 hours per week to ensure you have sufficient time for study and clinical placements.
