About the course
Graduates will have acquired a broad knowledge of organic production systems and the requirements for gaining and maintaining organic certification. Graduates should be able to demonstrate: Factors re: the development of organic horticulture in NZ; Scope & application of standards that apply to organic cert in NZ; Procedures for exporting certified organic products; Obtaining & maintaining organic certification for a horticulture operation; Develop & implement an organic management plan; Develop & implement an organic pest, disease & weed management plan for an organic crop; Maintaining organic integrity during post-harvest handling of organic horticulture produce; Water use & quality & related land use issues in primary production in NZ.
Entry requirements
Successfully completed the Certificate in Organic Horticulture (Level 3) programme. Applicants who do not meet the academic entry criteria above may be admitted to the programme if they are able to demonstrate: equivalent knowledge & skills and/or previous & relevant life skills & work experience.
