About the course
Programme Overview This programme supports caregivers specialising in dementia care and represents the essential knowledge and skills required for working with people affected by dementia. Learning and assessment for this programme occurs in the workplace. This programme consists of four unit standards and focuses on the essential skills, knowledge and attitudes required to support a person with dementia in a specialised residential facility. This LCP (Limited Credit Programme) is supported by Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) funding. The unit standards in this programme meet the requirements of the Age-Related Residential Care Services Agreement (ARRC) 2022.
Programme Outline The Dementia Care (LCP) covers the following topics:
Knowledge of dementia and communicating with a person with dementia. Providing person-centred care to a person living with dementia. Knowledge of the effects of dementia and how to manage them. Supporting a person with dementia when their behaviour presents challenges.
The average timeframe for completing this programme is 4 months.
