About the course
Assessment Package Overview Careerforce, with support from Hospice New Zealand, has developed an assessment package to recognise the competency of the workforce providing palliative and end of life care. Support workers or health professionals who attended the Hospice New Zealand Fundamentals of Palliative Care programme or those working in a palliative care setting who want to gain recognition for their work may get assessed and credentialised through Careerforce. We thank Hospice New Zealand and representatives of Hospice Waikato and Rotorua Hospice for being the Subject Matter Experts whose input shaped the development of the original assessments.
Assessment Package Outline The package includes learning support and assessment for the following unit standards:
Unit Standard Title: 28738 Describe the key principles of palliative care and a support worker’s role in a palliative approach to care
Credit, Level: Credits 3, Level 3
Unit standard Contributes to: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Support Work and Health Assistance Strands
Assessment Type: Short answer questions, marked by an assessor online on Aka Toi or paper based
Unit Standard Title: 29523 Apply a palliative care approach in a health or wellbeing setting
Credit, Level: Credits 8, Level 4
Unit standard Contributes to: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) Advanced Care and Support
Assessment Type: Short answer questions, marked by an assessor online on Aka Toi or paper based. Two observations to cover the application of palliative care and last days of life care.
