About the course
Study towards the Electro-technical RatingDevelop the skills to start your career in this vital global industry. Get basic maritime knowledge and skills and become familiar with shipping operations, shipboard practice and survival at sea.You will be prepared for a rewarding career in a global industry which has a continuous demand for well-trained and motivated people. You may find yourself working on a wide range of foreign-going ships from cruise liners, ferries and container vessels through to support vessels in the oil and gas industry. This programme combined with seatime and Maritime New Zealand requirements entitles you to apply for the electro-technical rating. You will gain the required knowledge, skills and experience for eventual seagoing employment as a rating on board commercial ships. This qualification combined with sea time and Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) requirements leads to a MNZ certificate: Electro-technical Rating (ETR) certificate of competency.
