About the course
Study maritime operations in fishing or watchkeepingGet the skills you need to progress to Mate Fishing Vessel or Watchkeeper working on a commercial or fishing vessel in New Zealand or international waters.This programme is for you if you are working in industry and want to progress to Mate Fishing Vessel or Watchkeeper Deck under 500 gross tonnage (GT). You will learn how to work safely onboard a commercial or fishing vessel and gain an understanding of navigational operations, compliance and legislative requirements, and emergency response procedures. You can choose the watchkeeping strand or fishing strand. This qualification combined with sea time and Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) requirements leads to a MNZ certificate: Watchkeeper Deck on ships less than 500 GT in a near-coastal area certificate of competency Mate Fishing Vessel — Limited certificate of competency.
