About the course

Graduates will be able to operate as beautician. Graduates may be employed in a clinic, pharmacy, or cosmetic retail outlet. The graduate beautician will be able to carry out the activities of:
Cosmetologist;
Beautician;

The graduate will have knowledge of:
OSH requirements and regulations;
First aid;
Retailing;
Introduction to Anatomy and physiology;
Cosmetic science;
Electrical treatments.

Entry requirements

Applicants should demonstrate an ability to succeed in tertiary study, shown by the completion of any of the following qualifications or courses of study: A minimum of four years secondary education; and 48 or more credits at NCEA Level 2 or higher, with no fewer than 12 credits in each of four subjects; (it is recommnded that two of these subjects are English and science); and With at least 12 credits in English Level 1 or higher and at least 12 credits in science Level 1 or higher ; and/or Equivalent NQF standards.

English language Applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools or other teaching institutions is not English, are required to provide evidence of having passed such tests of English language competence as the Academic Board will from time to time approve.

Life skills/work experience Applicants who do not meet the academic entry criteria above may be admitted to the programme if they are able to demonstrate: Equivalent knowledge and skills; and/or Previous and relevant life skills or work experience; and/or Other formal or informal study such as to suggest likelihood of successful programme completion.
