About the course
This short course is perfect for learning more about viticulture in New Zealand with a special focus on Central Otago.
It's ideal if you have a personal interest in viticulture or if you're thinking about entering the industry as a career choice.
Please note: For this course to run, we need a minimum of 7 people.

Day 1: Thursday 13 May
Morning
- Introduction to viticulture and the history of wine in New Zealand/Central Otago
- Varieties and growing conditions
Afternoon
- Viticulture practices:
- Trellising
- Planting
- Canopy management
- Pests
- Diseases
- Weeds
- Irrigation
- Soils
- Harvesting
- Organics.
Day 2: Friday 14 May
Morning
- Field trip – see Viticulture practices in industry
Afternoon
- Introduction to winemaking/wine tasting
- Career opportunities
What to bring
Lunch is not provided so we recommend bringing your own lunch or there will be time to pop out to a local café.
