About the course
Get ahead and gain the work-ready skills to excel in a building and construction apprenticeship.This one-year course will help you develop your technical knowledge and practical skills in many aspects of building and the construction industry. Become knowledgeable about the basic principles and practices for general construction, including calculations, communications, health and safety, site-safe passports, first aid, and hand power tools. You will also learn about tools, machines, timber, and construction support structures.Enjoy hands-on training in our workshops and building projects in a supportive environment with our industry-expert tutors. Our graduates go on to become carpenters, builders, project managers, and much more.

Based in Hamilton, the Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec), is one of the country’s largest institutes of technology. We deliver high-quality education across vocational (technical) and professional fields of study to approximately 13,000 students, across over 130 different courses.
