About the course
Are you working in the building industry and want to get your carpentry trade qualification? This flexible course can be completed alongside your everyday work. We offer the best training with experienced tutors managing your apprenticeship every step of the way. You’ll need to be currently working and have an employer who is willing to train you as an apprentice. You’ll then enrol with Toi Ohomai as a part-time student. The practical components of the course are taught on-site by your employer or supervisor. Our on-site tutors cover the whole Bay of Plenty and regularly come to you for assessment using our custom record of work app. You’ll also attend three, week long block courses per year for the first three years. Students enrolling in the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry with Toi Ohomai will also become ITAB (Industry Training Association Building) apprentices. This association has been set up to help raise industry standards. ITAB membership offers additional benefits like discount vouchers, awards, competitions, scholarships and a Certified Builders’ Due Completion of Apprenticeship certificate. The annual $150 ITAB fee will be covered by Toi Ohomai as part of the course fee. If you don’t have employment in the building industry, but are still keen to get a building qualification, have a look at our full-time course New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3).
