About this programme

Learn the skills and knowledge to promote a positive health and safety culture in your team and workplace. This course is ideal for those in supervisory or first line management roles.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand workplaces with people that have the skills and knowledge to promote and monitor health and safety practices and procedures, and a positive health and safety culture in the workplace. 

This programme is aimed at people who are transitioning into the management of occupational health and safety in the workplace. The programme focuses on the practical management of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and relevant regulations

While it is targeted at those currently working in industry that hold positions as first line managers, safety supervisors/representatives, co-ordinators or team leaders and are actively involved in the practical management of OSH and wish to gain further skills and knowledge in this area, students who have a keen interest in OSH, and relevant experience and/or qualifications may also apply.

What you will learn

Graduates will be able to: 

  • Implement, supervise, monitor, and communicate organisational and job specific health and safety requirements and practices, for a team in the workplace.

  • Utilise leadership skills to promote the benefits of good workplace health and safety practices and a proactive health and safety culture within a team.

  • Apply knowledge of health and safety risk analyses and mitigation strategies for a team in the workplace.

  • Recognise the impact of work related ill health and injuries on a specific business operation and the wider industry.

Admission Information

All applicants must: 

  • hold NCEA (Level 2) and have suitable work/industry experience; OR

  • have successfully completed New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 3) or demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge.

English language requirements:
All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those students whose first language is not English, must have an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; or an accepted international equivalence or a qualification considered equivalent to the above.
