Explore Paint Science
This advanced programme will teach you all the skills you need to manage and prepare paint applications and waterproofing systems. You’ll enter the world of colour science and develop your knowledge of paint science and the application of specialist finishes.
This qualification is suitable for those intending to work and those already working as painters and decorators.
What you will learn
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

Apply a broad practical working knowledge of the fundamental painting and decorating skill sets required to meet industry specifications.

Apply a broad practical working knowledge of painting and decorating products and materials for their correct selection, handling and storage.

Plan and carry out all aspects of colour, pre and post job work, and applying coatings to industry standards.

Self-manage on-going learning and provide leadership for others, with a responsibility to maintain the professional standards required in the painting and decorating industry.

Operate unsupervised to the required safety, technical, quality and productivity standards expected in a commercial painting and decorating environment.

Plan and carry out all aspects of specialised spraying using different types of equipment to industry specifications.

Entry Requirements
To gain admission to the New Zealand Certificate in Painting and Decorating (Level 4) applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be 16 years of age or older on the 1st of January in the year that the student enrols, unless approved otherwise by the Programme Leader.

Have attained NCEA Level 1 Maths and English or equivalent

The student can reasonably expect to achieve the standards required for successful completion of the programme or course.
Applicants for whom English is not a first language must have an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; or an accepted international equivalence.
