Diploma in Digital Design - Web and Graphic Design

About the course

Ever thought about how everything you see on a screen is just a bunch of zeroes and ones? Turning those into something beautiful and user-friendly is the craft of the designer.

Developed to meet the latest industry demands, this dynamic programme is an excellent starting point for students looking to study further in the fields of graphic design, or web and UX design.

Combining design principles and technical skills, the course offers a taste of the major components of graphic design and web development needed to produce engaging work for online and digital outputs.

Your 40 weeks include four 10-week modules where you’ll complete an in-depth assessment for each topic using industry-standard processes. You’ll cut your teeth on some insanely cool projects that not only build your skills but also help you begin your portfolio and prepare for further study or entering industry.

On graduating, you receive the New Zealand Diploma in Digital Media and Design (Level 5).

Entry requirements

We recognise that this year has been tough for students, especially if you’re moving on from High School. Because of this we are offering Discretionary Admission to students who have missed out on credits, so you don’t need to have University Entrance or NCEA Level 3 to be accepted into this programme. You will need to show you have your literacy and numeracy credits at Level 1, and at least your Level 2 NCEA certificate. A support letter from your school is also beneficial but not essential. Please speak to our Student Recruitment Advisors for more information.

Then usually you would need...

Students need NCEA Level 3 with at least one subject in a relevant field, or examples of work demonstrating skills in web and graphic design (assessed by the Graphic Design Head of Faculty). Download our portfolio guidelines for this course.

Successful completion of our Level 4 Creative Media programme (previously iCreate) allows entry into this programme. If your first language is not English, you must demonstrate English language proficiency at the level of IELTS 5.5 Academic, with no band lower than 5.0.

International students need to be at least 18 years old.

About the provider

Yoobee Colleges officially formed in May 2019.

The creative minds and legacies of South Seas Film & Television School, Animation College, Yoobee School of Design, AMES – The Institute of IT and Design & Arts (Canterbury) joined forces to become Yoobee Colleges, an interdisciplinary college with seven campuses located across New Zealand.

The colleges all have rich histories, dating back 30 years in some cases, and they have been working collaboratively for several years to offer complementary pathway programmes.

The official joining of these forces under one umbrella strengthens these relationships, enabling greater pathway options for students and stronger educational outcomes, as some of the best creative educators in New Zealand come together for the joint purpose of training the country’s top creatives and IT professionals and getting them into rewarding careers.
