About the course
Have you always wanted to work for yourself but don't know where to start? Before you launch your business, learn what many small business owners only figure out once they are in business.
Smart Steps to Business will help you to identify, evaluate and plan for the launch of your business. You'll learn everything required to build a business idea and assess its feasibility alongside launching your business in the market.
Upon successful completion of this programme, you will receive the following qualification:
- NZ Certificate in Business (Introduction to Small Business) Level 3
You’ll learn about:
- external analysis of a business opportunity
- technology options for small businesses
- social, cultural and environmental impacts of small businesses
- effective communication with stakeholders.

Entry requirements
To enrol in this programme, a potential student must:
- be at least 16 years of age
- be a New Zealand citizen (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent resident
- be a graduate of a Level 2 business qualification (or higher) or demonstrate numeracy and literacy competence
- attend an information session and an enrolment interview.
*This course is not available to international students.
