Diploma in Te Aupikitanga ki te Reo Kairangi

About the course

Continue your immersion journey in te reo Māori and lead the way for your whānau, hapū and iwi. Function confidently in most situations using only te reo Māori. 

Learn to articulate your ideas and hold meaningful dialogues using metaphors and whakaaro Māori. Develop a translation skillset, and learn in an encouraging environment that also challenges you to speak and think in te reo. 

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will receive the following qualification:

  • Te Pōkairua Reo (Rumaki) (Te Kaupae 6) - New Zealand Diploma in Te Reo (Rumaki) Level 6

You'll learn about:

  • intermediate-level grammar
  • translation
  • using metaphorical language
  • interpreting texts
  • tikanga
  • waiata and haka.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this programme, a potential tauira must:

  • be at least 16 years of age 
  • be a New Zealand citizen (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent resident have successfully completed Te Hapūtanga o te Reo (Kaupae 5), or a te reo Māori diploma qualification at Level 5, or Year One of a te reo Māori degree (Rumaki) 
  • attend an interview or information hui with a kaiako.

Or

successfully complete the pre-entry assessment (PEA) – direct entries only, and attend an interview or information hui with a kaiako.

  1. be at least 16 years of age 
  2. be a New Zealand citizen (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent resident.
  3.  Have successfully completed Te Hapūtanga o te Reo (Kaupae 5), or a te reo Māori diploma qualification at Level 5, or Year One of a te reo Māori degree (Rumaki), and
  4. Attend an interview, or information hui, with a kaiako OR Successfully complete the pre-entry assessment (PEA) – Direct entries only, and
