Te Pūtaketanga o te Reo (Level 4)

About the course

Want to speak te reo Māori? There's no better way than to immerse yourself in the language. Learn in a calm and encouraging environment that also challenges you to speak and think in the reo. Our experienced and fluent kaiako understand what it takes to help you go from little or no Māori language to a basic conversational ability. You'll learn with others at the same beginner's level, and you'll get more confident by the day. Kia kaha! 

Tauira enrolled in this programme are encouraged to bring their own digital device to download resources to support their studies. 

When you pass this programme, you'll get this qualification:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Rumaki) Level 3
  • New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Rumaki) Level 4

You'll learn about:

  • basic grammar
  • correct pronunciation
  • conversational te reo Māori
  • tikanga
  • whakapapa, whānau, and tūrangawaewae.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this programme, a potential student must:

  • be at least 16 years of age 
  • be a New Zealand citizen (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent resident 
  • have successfully completed a te reo Māori qualification at Level 2 or demonstrate existing te reo skills and knowledge at Level 2 
  • attend an information sharing hui with a kaiako.
