About the course
The programme will prepare the students to study effectively in English at University level, in any chosen subject, from pre-professional to post graduate courses. It integrates the four main language skills and academic language.
The programme content will provide practical help in developing essential skills for academic study, such as critical thinking, effective note-making and note-taking skills, citations and referencing, essay writing and participating in group discussions.
Students will be encouraged to study independently and learn to apply the skills to their chosen discipline.
Entry requirements
To enrol in this programme, a potential ākonga must:
- be at least 16 years of age
- be a New Zealand citizen (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent resident.
- take an online placement test and attend a pre-enrolment interview with the kaiako to determine whether the intended programme of study is appropriate to their needs
