About the course

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the protective coatings sector with trade assistant qualified people who can competently prepare for and apply protective coating using simple application methods under limited supervision.

Learners will benefit by having a qualification that recognises their skills and knowledge in protective coating preparation and application, supports improved job performance, and enhances employment opportunities.

Organisations will benefit in efficiency by having staff with recognised skills and knowledge to competently assist in the protective coating process.

This qualification is targeted at people entering the protective coatings industry and will also provide a credential for those already working in the industry.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this qualification numeracy ability is required at level 3 or above in all strands of the learning progressions for adult numeracy (published 2008 by the Tertiary Education Commission).
