Graduates will be recognised by industry as qualified Professional Hairstylists, capable of operating with complete self-management, integrating fashion services and meeting commercial salon requirements.
This qualification is the third of three qualifications that provide alternative pathways to recognition as a qualification Professional Hairstylist. It may be achieved through workplace-based training in a commercial workplace.

You’ll learn all the practical skills you need to succeed in your chosen profession and gain valuable experience. The best part is you get paid to learn, as you’ll be paid a wage by your employer throughout the course of your apprenticeship.
To become a HITO hairdressing, barbering or beauty therapy apprentice, you must be fully employed in a salon, barbershop or clinic anywhere in New Zealand. Once you’re employed, you’re able to sign a training agreement with your employer and HITO.
HITO have Sales and Training Advisors across the country who will support your apprenticeship journey by visiting your workplace and providing you with training materials to support your learning and assessments.
Hairdressing, barbering, and beauty therapy apprentices
have many opportunities to progress into senior roles. The communication,
business and problem-solving skills they gain during their training prepare
them for a range of careers in and outside of the hair and beauty industries.
