The hospitality industry is one where no two days are the same. In this fast-paced industry it is important to keep your skills relevant and up-to-date. UCOL's Academy Cafe Skills programme can put you on the road to success. If you enjoy food preparation, barista, front of house, and baking, then apply. You will have the opportunity to work towards NCEA Level 3 whilst exploring the technical skills required to work in a cafe, restaurant, bar or catering business.

Unit Standard 167 (Level 2) (Version 8) (4 Credits)
Practise food safety methods in a food business under supervision.

Unit Standard 13272 (Level 2) (Version 5) (2 Credits)
Cook food items by baking.

Unit Standard 14441 (Level 3) (Version 6) (5 Credits)
Provide cafe counter service in a hospitality establishment.

Unit Standard 17285 (Level 2) (Version 9) (4 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of commercial espresso coffee equipment and prepare espresso beverages under supervision.

Unit Standard 13281 (Level 2) (Version 6) (2 Credits)
Prepare and present basic sandwiches for service

Unit Standard 13283 (Level 2) (Version 5) (2 Credits)
Prepare and present salads for service

Unit Standard 13280 (Level 2) (Version 6) (2 Credits)

Entry requirements

For year 11 - 13 secondary school students (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or students with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school).

Applications are to be received from participating schools.
