UCOL's Academy Hair, Beauty & Retail Programme gives you the core skills needed to succeed as a beautician, hairdresser, nail technician or in customer service. You will have the opportunity to work towards NCEA Level 2 whilst exploring the technical, service and industry related skills to build your knowledge of this sector.

Demonstrate knowledge of fashion trends in relation to hairstyling.

Demonstrate knowledge of theft and fraud in a retail or distribution environment.

Unit Standard 25439 (Level 2) (Version 2 (2 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of sustainability concepts for a salon.

Unit Standard 27640 (Level 2) (Version 2) (3 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of current fashion trends and history related to beauty therapy.

Describe the relevance of anatomy and physiology knowledge to beauty therapy practice.

Present a personal fashion image for work in a hairdressing salon environment.

Entry requirements

Domestic Entry Requirements

For year 11 - 13 secondary school students (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or students with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school).

Applications are to be received from participating schools.

Recommended school subjects include:
