About the course
Rise to the challenge
This programme is all about being hands-on. You will be taken out of the classroom and into the real-world environment of a local commercial bakery kitchen and The Hub Café.
In our bakery training environment you will work as an effective member of the team and learn to communicate clearly with customers and your colleagues and gain a solid background of general bakery knowledge.
Outline
Delivered over one semester, this programme is designed to help you learn to produce a range of baked goods to a consistent standard. The programme will build on your basic bakery skills and knowledge.
During the programme you will build professional relationships and connections with employers. The structure of the timetable will enable you to pursue employment in the industry whilst you are completing your studies.
The programme progresses bakery learning and experience to senior technical levels. Study is based on bakery techniques research, and its culinary specialties.

Your future career and study opportunities
With a worldwide shortage of skilled people in the industry, graduates may take their place in the workforce, progress to further industry-based training or progress onto the NZ Certificate in Baking (Generalist) (Level 4) programme and then the NZ Diploma in Cookery (Advanced) (Level 5) – Pâtisserie strand.
